What is your favourite flower?
Ugh... So, here's the thing: I hate flowers.
Not their existence, I'm not that bad, just... flowers as gifts and home decorations etc.
I always have, and since getting my first cat, aged 20, I've just gotten more and more vociferous about it. Folks think I'm nuts, I don't care.
THEY'RE A GIFT THAT DIES!
Seriously... It's like, here, have a pretty bunch of things that will slowly wither and rot before your peepers! They'll make you sneeze and try to murder your beloved pet(s). Oh! And we'll also be charging your family/friends/co-workers/you a small fortune for the pleasure of giving you this experience!
No, thank you.
And since getting cats? Do you know how many flowers are bad for cats to be around?! If not outright fatal?
Most folks know about the dangers of lilie's.
But how about tulips, daffodils, chrysanthemums, amaryllis, and crocuses?
Not to mention other common flowers like chrysanthemums, hyacinths, gladioli and iris.
Okay, I know I'm being a bit over the top and dramatic here, especially as flowers like daffofils and amaryllis have the highest proportion of toxins in their bulbs and, therefore, aren't an issue with a bouquet.
However, the others are problematic as cut stemmed flowers to varying degrees and they're just the tip of the iceberg.
Obviously, cats and flowers co-exist just fine in many households.
You know your cat and know whether they're dumb enough to take a nibble or a sniff.
The only flower I've outright refused to have anywhere near me or my house are lilies because even a tiny amount of pollen can cause catastrophic effects in the furry ones.
But since I'm not a flower person and don't know what's in a bouquet, or what's safe at a glance, I'd rather not be bothered with them.
Especially when I've always thought they were a pointless gift to give in the first place.
Want to give me something beautiful that I'll appreciate?
Buy me a book.
But if you must buy flowers... Sunflowers are my favourite.
They're big, beautiful and non-toxic. 😉

I love getting flowers but I like anything that's purple of blue. I saw Grape Hyacinth and just loved them.
